In 2021, the UN Food Systems Summit, convened by the UN Secretary-General, aimed to accelerate progress on all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through a food systems approach, leveraging the interconnectedness of food systems with global challenges such as hunger, climate change, poverty, and inequality, to strengthen the political, scientific, and financial efforts to address them, worldwide.

The Regional Preparatory Meeting held on 3-4 April in Geneva served as an additional step towards the UN Food Systems Summit +4, in Addis Ababa (27-29 July 2025), and it served to gather valuable insights from policy-makers, stakeholders, researchers and communities. Their  contributions played a pivotal role in fostering rich, constructive discussions and in shaping a strong and forward-looking regional narrative in preparation for UNFSS+4. Organized by the the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub, in collaboration with Regional Economic Commissions, the Issue-Based Coalition on Sustainable Food Systems (IBC-SFS) in Europe and Central Asia, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the regional  preparatory meeting ensured participation and effettive discussion  to guide contributions to UNFSS+4. The meeting had three main objectives:
– Reflect on progress in food systems transformation since UNFSS in 2021
– Strengthen accountability of food governance institutions
– Unlock Investments for food systems transformation.

The regional meetings drew on UNFSS+2 (held in July 2023) takeways, and their outcomes will be synthesized to express regional instances to be considered for the preparation of the UNFSS+4.The RLFSC Alliance was there in the person of Chiar Giaime Berti,  to present its integrated approach to sustainable supply chains, and introducing Re.Food as strategic assistance project to support the work of the Alliance.

As Resilient Local food Supply Chains Alliance, our goal is to create networks of partners and disseminate best practices, accelerating the fulfillment of Sustainability objectives in the food sector, through more resilient supply chains and localized food systems.
